Although taxis are metred, you may need to agree a fare with the driver before you start your journey as drivers sometimes do not use metres. You can get around Kathmandu by bus but bear in mind that bus routes are marked in Nepali. You can also hire a car from one of the international or local car hire agencies available in the city. It is possible to hire a car with a driver.
